![]() Posts: 4 Group: Member Skin: Default | Genotype describes the combination of alleles (for example: two dominant genes, two recessive genes or a combination of dominant & recessive)
Phenotype describes how the genotype is physically expressed. Using Gregor Mendel's experiments on pea plants; a plant may contain gene for pink flowers (let's call it the dominant one) & a gene for yellow flowers (call it recessive. The genotype in this case is therefore described by the a dominant gene for pink & recessive gene for yellow. The phenotype would simply be pink, as the dominant gene is the one that is expressed in this case. Of course, in real life it isn't that simple, but for the sake of HSC biology this much information should suffice. ----------------- |
