![]() Posts: 4 Group: Member Skin: Default | i'm glad you asked craig. there are 2 main types of feedback system in the human body; positive feedback systems & negative feedback systems.
a negative feedback system has the function of restoring varibales to their optimal level & regaing homeostasis. once an increase or decrease in a variable is detected, the negative feedback loop begins to restore variable to its optimal level. your text book should provide you with a good diagram which explains the process in finer detail. a positive feedback system does the opposite to a negative feedback system. when a change in a variable is detected, the body amplifies this by allowing the event to continue happening & in a sense, helps it to happen. an example of this is the release of platelets. when a wound occurs platelets are dispatched to the site in greater & greater amounts until a certain 'concentration' is reached which at that point they are stopped. the HSC does not require you to know this, though it will be useful to know if you intend on doing anatomy & physiology at university. there is no such thing as an automatic or manual feedback system, they are merely there to confuse you. ----------------- |
